A package arrived for me today unexpectedly. After a brief anxiety attack thinking I had forgotten about an order placed somewhere ( probably an online shopping boutique) I discovered who had sent me a care package of chocolate, a mixed tape and alcohol.... none other than the incredible Jose Villa. You see in 20 sleeps I will board a plane to Guadalajara, Mexico and embark on what I anticipate will be the most exciting photographic learning experience of my career to date. It's a Jose Villa Workshop baby!!!! Not only is it set in sunny mexico, at a 100 year old hacienda, mister miyagi himself Jose will be shedding his vast light upon myself and 20 fellow photogs from around the globe. Joining him are elite industry pros.
Seriously 20 more sleeps.
Now, there are a few of us, (my mother and sister Christy) who are not so excited to watch me away on a cloud of photography heaven. For the past few months all I've heard are the details from dateline's profile on drug lords in Mexico, how I'm going to contract Polio, and if/when Im kidnapped, there is nothing the Canadian government will be able to do to rescue me.
Pause. Sigh. Eye roll. I know people, I know.
A decision was made on my part to hopefully ease my family's mind, I paid for Sean to accompany me. He wont be able to join the workshop seminars so I hope he doesn't mind a free trip to a mexican poolside for a week. Okay Mom???
When I got this package in the mail yesterday it pumped me up!! But Christy says its probably my kidnapping survival kit.
- The postcard to send my last regards to Canada
- The chocolate and tequila to drug me up
- And the beans and rice as my source of nourishment
GOOD. LORD.
So while mom and Christy PVR dateline, I'll be packing my maracas and sunblock. 20 Sleeps till JOSE VILLA!!!!!!!!!! This calls for tequila shot!
